The multiple choice section usually consists of 6-7 questions. Each question will have 4 possible answers often set up as follows.
Question:
a) obviously wrong b) distractor (designed to confuse the ill prepared) c) obviously wrong d) correct answer
1. Start by crossing out those answers that are obviously wrong. 2. Try to reach the correct answer through the process of elimination.
The first questions will be very specific, often referring you to a particular line or paragraph; whereas, the questions at the end of this section will be broader and more interpretive.
Written Response:
INSTRUCTIONS: In paragraph form and in at least 150 words, answer question 1 in the Response Booklet. Write in ink. Use the Organization and Planning space to plan your work. The mark for your answer will be based on the appropriateness of the examples you use as well as the adequacy of your explanation and the quality of your written expression.
A writing task demanding your interpretation of the text / character / event / literary device will be given. The key is to be able to base your opinion on clear examples from the text.
This task is NOT about getting the RIGHT answer. It is about being able to defend your position through examples and clear analysis.
