Using Citations Effectively
Use citations to
BACK UP
your argument,
NOT
to make your argument for you.
Citing is as simple as including a quote to prove your point.
Citing someone else's brilliant idea can add strength to your argument.
Make sure internet quotes match your paper format.
If your quote is from a book,
DOUBLE CHECK
the quote for accuracy.
Keep your quotes short.
Remove irrelevant portions of the quote and replace them with bracketed ellipses.
Don't sacrifice context for brevity.
Don't ever use the same quote twice!
To Summarize:
Keep it brief.
Explain why you chose the quote.
Format the quotes appropriately.
